Training and inspiring the next generation of neurosurgeons is an important part of pushing the field forward. I have been involved in teaching countless residents and medical students in neurosurgery. I'm proud to have many of them as current colleagues. We are always looking for additional students interested in shadowing, participating on research, or learning about the field of neurosurgery.
In addition to our regular research, we currently run a weekly virtual neurosurgery lab aiming to allow students to be involved in neurosurgical research. This opportunity has also been a wonderful way to mentor the future generation and allow students from disadvantaged backgrounds or those without home neurosurgical programs to begin learning about this field. We are always open to new participants.
Continuing to serve within national organizations, such as AANS, CNS and NASBS, has been an important avenue to collaborate, teach the next generation on developing a successful career, and further the field. We recently helped moderate a multi-session series on practice development with the NASBS entitled "Building a Practice".
